Our company was founded in 1977 by Constance Hurt in Central Ohio and was named Butterflies & Things. Originally, the business operated as a mail-order catalog sending out a yearly mailer to collectors and enthusiasts around the United States.

As times and technology changed, eventually that catalog moved to an online format and our website was born. This allowed the company to grow significantly and reach an even broader base of collectors, artists, designers, and enthusiasts. Our business developed a reputation as a dependable supplier of high-quality butterflies and insects that were sustainably and ethically sourced from butterfly farms and breeding operations around the world. We are suppliers to many well-known artists utilizing butterflies in art, photography, or design. Much of their amazing artwork, as well as pieces created in-house, are available through The Butterfly Company at our Chicago office. Our clients include: Tiffany’s, Swarovski, Hallmark, Martha Stewart, The Smithsonian Museum, Nike, and insect enthusiasts around the world.
